Russia warns 'no mercy' on mercenaries in Ukraine

The Russian military has warned that it knows the location of foreign mercenaries in Ukraine and will target them.

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on March 14 that Western governments have encouraged their citizens to join the fight against the Russian army in Ukraine as mercenaries.

"The full responsibility for the deaths of foreign mercenaries in Ukraine will be borne by the leaders of these countries," warned Konashenkov.

The Russian Defense Ministry said that the country's military will continue to carry out attacks such as the destruction of the Yavorov base and have zero tolerance for mercenaries.

"We know all the locations of foreign mercenaries in Ukraine. I would like to warn again, that we will not be lenient with mercenaries, no matter where they are on Ukrainian territory," Gen. Igor Konashenkov emphasized.

"Russia will continue to launch targeted attacks," Konashenkov said, referring to the March 13 cruise missile attack on military bases in Yavorov and Starichi in western Ukraine. .

The Russian Defense Ministry spokesman said on March 13 that Russia had struck a Ukrainian military training center at the Yavorov military base near the Polish border. Konashenkov said that Moscow targeted this facility because it is used by Ukraine as a center for training, organizing groups of mercenaries against Russia in Ukraine, as well as a place to gather weapons that foreign aid aid to Ukraine. This is also the place where the joint drills between Ukrainian troops and NATO member countries are often held.

According to the Russian statement, the missile strike destroyed Ukrainian military bases, killed "180 foreign mercenaries" and destroyed a large number of weapons. Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials said, 35 people were killed and 130 injured in an attack on the "International Center for Peace and Security," the official name of the military base near Yavorov. .

While the Ukrainian authorities insist that no foreign fighters were killed in the attack, several British newspapers reported that three former British special forces were killed in Yavorov and the number of deaths in the area. more than the reported number of casualties. Meanwhile, Washington insists that no US "soldiers, contractors or civilian government employees" are present in Yavorov.

Western countries, including the UK and the US, condemned this Russian attack. The attack shows that Russia is stepping up its offensive in western Ukraine after two weeks of focusing on targets in the north, south and east.

Earlier, Russia warned that foreign weapons trucks providing aid to Ukraine would become "legitimate targets" of Russian forces. According to some sources, Western arms aid to Ukraine is transported through the Polish border. Some experts have warned that Western weapons trucks entering Ukraine could become the target of Russian attacks.
