Russian official confirmed that the deputy commander of the Black Sea Fleet was killed in the battle in Ukraine

Several Russian officials confirmed that the Deputy Commander of the Black Sea Fleet Andrey Paliy was killed in the battle in the city of Mariupol, RT news agency reported.

RT news agency on March 20 quoted Senator Yekaterina Altabaeva representing the city of Sevastopol, Crimea, saying that Deputy Commander of the Black Sea Fleet Andrey Paliy was killed in the battle for control of the city of Mariupol, Southern Ukraine. However, the congressman did not provide further details.

The above information was later confirmed by Governor of Sevastopol Mikhail Razvozhaev. Both officials know the Deputy Commander of the Black Sea Fleet Andrey Paliy. In a comment posted on Telegram, Mr. Razvozhaev said: "Mr Andrey Paliy sacrificed for our peace".

The Russian Defense Ministry has not yet commented on these information. The Ukrainian military says that so far at least six Russian generals and commanders have been killed since Moscow launched its military operation in Ukraine on February 24.

According to media reports, Paliy died while on duty to oversee the implementation of a humanitarian corridor set up in Mariupol to evacuate people from the city that Russian forces were trying to control.

The Mariupol war is getting hotter and hotter, Russian forces have continuously pressed and attacked this strategic city of Ukraine.

On March 20, Russia called on Ukrainian forces in the port city of Mariupol to lay down their weapons in the face of a humanitarian tragedy. "Put down your arms. A terrible humanitarian disaster is taking place. All those who drop their weapons are guaranteed to leave Mariupol safely," said Colonel Mikhail Mizintsev, director of the Russian Center for Defense Management. . The official added that humanitarian corridors for civilians will be opened east and west out of Mariupol at 10:00 a.m. Moscow time on March 21. He also gave the Ukrainian side a deadline to respond to this proposal before 5 am.

Mizintsev said that Russia has evacuated more than 59,000 people from the city, but 130,000 civilians are still trapped in the city.

He affirmed that Russia did not use heavy weapons in Mariupol. In contrast, Moscow has repeatedly accused Ukrainian nationalists of participating in "mass terrorism" in the city. However, Ukraine says it is fighting for its existence.

Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24 with a statement aimed at "demilitarizing" and "de-fascistizing" Ukraine. Russia is strengthening its forces to surround strategic Ukrainian cities such as Mariupol and Kiev, isolating Ukraine from sea routes.

Ukraine's Defense Ministry said on March 18 that its forces had "temporarily" lost access to the Sea of Azov due to a military operation by the Russian armed forces. If it gains control of Mariupol and its surrounding areas, Russia will gain control of the Sea of Azov region. From the Sea of Azov, Russia could open the way down to the Black Sea, leading to a scenario where it could control Ukraine's coastline.
