Smoke and fire surround cities, Ukraine considers extending martial law

President Volodymyr Zelensky introduced a bill to extend martial law in Ukraine, while fighting is still raging in the cities.

According to a notice on the official website of the President of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky submitted a bill to the Ukrainian parliament late on March 14 seeking to extend martial law by 30 days, effective from 24/24. 3.

The above information comes in the context of fighting still raging in cities in Ukraine, especially in the suburbs of the capital Kiev.

Satellite images released on March 14 by Maxar Technologies, a US-based company, show the impact of shelling on areas in Ukraine.

39 km from central Kiev, satellite images show that almost all houses in the northwest of the village of Moschun have been badly damaged.

Some houses were seen still burning, while areas around the village were also burned.

Satellite images also show the extent of damage in the southern Ukrainian port city of Mariupol.

Mariupol Intensive Care Hospital was seen with a hole in the south side of the building, while debris was also scattered outside.

It is not clear who is responsible for the damage caused by the attacks at the Mariupol hospital. Near the hospital, several apartment buildings also appeared to have suffered significant damage, one of which was destroyed by fire.

About a kilometer to the south, in the Primorskyi region, several houses were seen smoldering after a military assault. Nearby apartment buildings were also damaged, while other homes in residential areas in the city center were also damaged.

In the capital Kiev, several loud explosions were heard in the downtown area early this morning. The cause of the explosions is unknown at this time.

The British Ministry of Defense said on March 12 that Russian ground forces were about 25 km from central Kiev and could besiege the Ukrainian capital in the next few days. Meanwhile, a US defense official said on March 14 that Russian forces approached Kiev from the north, including a military convoy, about 14 km from the city center.

The US defense official insists that the Russian military has not yet gained air superiority over Ukraine, despite Russia's powerful air force.

Russia recently expanded its military campaign to western Ukraine, after focusing on striking targets in the east, south and north.

Viktor Zolotov, head of Russia's National Guard and a member of President Vladimir Putin's security council, admitted on March 14 that Russia's campaign in Ukraine was slower than planned due to the Russian far-right forces. Kiev uses civilians as a shield.

"I would like to say that things are not going as quickly as we would like. But we are still moving towards the goal step by step and will win," said Mr. Zolotov.
