When asked about the timeline for Russia to complete the military operation and whether it can be completed in a period of days, Mr. Peskov said: "We are talking about the near future."


In an interview with Sky News on April 7, a Kremlin spokesman said that Russia hopes the military operation in Ukraine can end "in the coming days" in one way or another. Peskov added that the operation could end because Russia had achieved its military goals, or because Moscow and Kiev reached a peace agreement through negotiations.


"Our military is trying its best to end that operation. We hope in the coming days, in the near future, this operation will achieve its goal, or we will end with raids. negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations," Peskov said.


He stressed that the prospects for a peace treaty will largely depend on the consistency of Ukraine's stance and willingness to respond to the conditions set by Russia.


Peskov acknowledged that Russia had "significantly lost" soldiers during the military operation in Ukraine and that it was a "great tragedy". Earlier, in a statement on March 25, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that 1,351 Russian soldiers had been killed and 3,825 wounded since Moscow began its military operation in Ukraine.


Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine from February 24. Moscow claims the operation is only targeting military targets in Ukraine in an effort to "demilitarize" and "de-fascistize" Ukraine. One of the goals of the campaign is to prevent a larger conflict or the risk of World War 3, Peskov said.


Moscow has repeatedly stated that it will only end the campaign when the set goals are achieved, Ukraine must accept the proposals that Russia put forward such as maintaining its neutral position, not joining military alliances, not allowing the country to join forces. in addition to the base and some conditions related to the status of the Crimean peninsula as well as the breakaway Donbass region in the East.


In an effort to defuse the conflict, the two sides have conducted at least four rounds of face-to-face negotiations. Ukraine has begun to take a more pragmatic approach to peace negotiations. Russia's chief negotiator Vladimir Medinsky said Ukraine has shown signs of agreeing to becoming neutral, not possessing nuclear weapons, not joining military alliances and not allowing foreign bases. . Mr. Medinsky affirmed that Russia's position on Crimea and Donbass issues remains unchanged.
