France is trying to find a solution to increase biogas production from agricultural waste as a solution to replace fossil fuels imported from Russia.
In an effort to reduce its dependence on gas and oil from Russia under the influence of Western sanctions, France is working to increase biogas production from agricultural waste.
French scientists expect this new energy source can completely replace energy imported from Russia within 10 years.
French farmers are said to have expressed support for Europe's effort to phase out Russian gas and are planning to build new biofuel production facilities. It is known that small biofuel stations have provided energy for thousands of households in France.
However, the solution to generate energy from biogas will not be able to quickly completely replace fossil fuels imported from Russia. Biomethane currently supplies only 1% of France's energy needs. Experts estimate that at the current rate of development, France can only have enough biogas production to replace gas imported from Russia by 2030.
Another problem that France will face when replacing fuel imported from Russia with biogas is the extremely expensive cost of this clean energy.
According to German Biogas Association spokeswoman Andrea Horbelt, "using biogas for electricity generation will always be more expensive than other forms of renewable energy such as wind and solar power".
