South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement after the launch that the missile was fired from an area near the capital Pyongyang and landed in the sea off the east coast of North Korea.


South Korea also called North Korea's repeated missile tests "a serious threat" to world peace and accused North Korea of ​​violating United Nations Security Council resolutions.


On the Japanese side, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is on an official visit to Italy. "The series of actions that threaten peace, security and stability in the region by North Korea is unacceptable," Kishida told reporters in Rome.


The Japanese prime minister also said he would discuss the launch with Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi during talks late on Wednesday.


Currently, Pyongyang has not commented on this missile test. However, in an earlier statement, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un warned of a pre-emptive strike with nuclear weapons if Pyongyang's fundamental interests were threatened.
