Russia warns that conflict with NATO could lead to the risk of nuclear war

A senior Russian official warned that the conflict scenario between Russia and NATO could escalate into a nuclear war and this would be a catastrophic scenario for all.

Deputy Chairman of Russia's National Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said on May 12 that the West's accumulation of weapons in Ukraine in a military campaign with Russia could increase the risk of conflict between Moscow and NATO. This scenario could escalate into a nuclear war, Medvedev warned.

"Attempts by NATO countries to overwhelm Ukraine with weapons, to train the Kiev army to use Western equipment, to deploy mercenaries and to hold exercises near Russia's borders will increase the the possibility of direct and open conflict between Russia and NATO instead of the current proxy war," Medvedev said.

"There is always a risk that such a conflict will turn into an all-out nuclear war. This would be a catastrophic scenario for everyone," he warned.

Russia and the United States are currently the two leading nuclear powers in the world. According to the Arms Control Association (USA), Russia currently has 6,527 nuclear warheads, while the three NATO nuclear powers including the US, UK and France have a total of 6,065 warheads.

Newsweek on May 8 quoted the director of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin on Telegram as saying: "If a nuclear war breaks out, we can destroy NATO countries in just half an hour. However, we will not allow it. That would happen because the consequences of nuclear conflicts will negatively affect the Earth, so we will have to defeat this stronger economically and militarily adversary by military means. usually, common, normal".

Relations between Russia and NATO have escalated recently, especially after Moscow launched a military campaign in Ukraine and the West continuously supplied weapons to Kiev. Russian President Vladimir Putin has since February ordered strategic deterrence forces, including those carrying nuclear weapons, to be on high alert and put on alert for "unfriendly" actions. " by NATO.

The West has accused Moscow of a "nuclear threat". In response to this allegation, Russia once stated, "nobody in Russia thought of the use or even the idea of using nuclear weapons". Russia says it will only use nuclear weapons in the event of a "existential threat" to the country.
