Russia's calculation when sending armored vehicles "terminator" to Donbass

Russia is said to have sent BMPT-72 "destroyer" armored vehicles to Donbass, Eastern Ukraine, in an effort to accomplish the goal set out in the second phase of the military operation.

The Telegraph reported that a video shot in Severodonetsk, a city on the front lines of the Donbass region, Ukraine, shows what appears to be the famous Russian BMPT-72 armored vehicle, with the letter V above it.

According to experts, this is considered evidence that Moscow has sent one of the most powerful weapons in its arsenal to Ukraine, in an attempt to gain control of the entire Donbass as the stated goal.

The "terminator" armor is equipped with a powerful weapon system, including 2 30mm 2A42 automatic cannons, 4 130mm Ataka-T 9M120 anti-tank guided missiles and 7.62mm PKTM machine gun.

Two 30mm 2A42 automatic cannons can fire 800 times per minute at a distance of 3.7km and its Ataka-T anti-tank guided missile can penetrate more than 60cm of armor.

The BMPT-72 is also equipped with night vision equipment, a long-range laser detection system and a laser-guided missile system.

In addition to the powerful weapon system, the strong point of the BMPT-72 lies in the height of the turret. Thanks to the high turret structure, the BMPT-72 can attack from a position less visible to the enemy.

Its diverse weapon system allows this armor to destroy targets ranging from tanks, infantry, as well as helicopters and low-flying aircraft. It is developed based on the main tank T-72 chassis.

Military expert Justin Crump, a British veteran, said that this is an armor that Russia is quite confident in deploying because it can support tanks and "suppress" enemy fire. when conducting attacks in urban areas.

Russia has very few BMPT-72 armored vehicles in service. This vehicle type is only equipped for one frontline unit. Observers believe that these armored vehicles belong to the motorized infantry unit of the 90th Tank Division of the Central Military District of the Russian Army. This unit owns a total of 9 BMPT-72s.
