The US warns of the strongest military response against Russia

US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi called for the "strongest possible" response to Russia's military campaign in Ukraine after meetings with officials in Warsaw and Kiev.

After talks with Polish President Andrzej Duda on May 2, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Washington and its allies must increase efforts against Moscow. Ms. Pelosi called for the "strongest military response" and "strongest sanctions" to show that Russia's military campaign in Ukraine was "unacceptable".

"We shouldn't be acting any lighter because of the threat from Russia," Pelosi said.

The speaker of the US House of Representatives also said that the US delegation "discussed the importance of the US-Polish partnership in providing security, economic and humanitarian aid to Ukraine", as well as "the extent of importance of strengthening the NATO alliance".

Both the US and Poland have provided significant amounts of military equipment and other aid to Ukraine in response to the Russian military campaign. Washington spends tens of billions of dollars to provide Ukraine with heavy artillery, drones, helicopters, armored vehicles, ammunition and many other weapons. Western countries also launched a heavy sanctions campaign seeking to "isolate" and "paralyze" the Russian economy, forcing Moscow to halt its military campaign in Ukraine.

In a statement after meeting with the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, the Polish President said that the two countries also discussed the further strengthening of the "eastern flank" of NATO. After several US deployments, the number of US troops in Europe exceeded 140,000, with a portion of the force stationed in the east.

Poland has made a number of important security proposals for both this country and Ukraine in recent weeks, calling on the US to facilitate the delivery of fighter jets to Kiev, as well as the deployment of troops. America, even nuclear weapons on Polish territory. Russian officials have repeatedly criticized countries' arms aid to Ukraine, and warned that the deployment of nuclear weapons in Poland would trigger a similar response from Moscow.

Before traveling to Poland, Speaker of the US House of Representatives Pelosi led a delegation of lawmakers to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev.

Ms. Pelosi, who is second in the line of succession to the US presidency after Vice President Kamala Harris, becomes the highest-ranking US official to visit Ukraine since hostilities broke out between Kiev and Moscow more than two months ago. According to observers, this move seems to show the strong commitment of the US in supporting Ukraine.

The US House of Representatives last week passed a bill that would allow US President Joe Biden to reactivate a World War II program to remove barriers to Biden's ability to lend or lease weapons to Ukraine. Biden also proposed that the US Congress spend an additional 33 billion USD to support Ukraine in the next few months.
