The Guardian reported that the government of President Tayyip Erdogan has made an offer to assist in the evacuation of wounded Ukrainians still trapped in the Azovstal steel plant in the city of Mariupol.


According to Ibrahim Kalin, spokesman and senior foreign policy adviser to President Erdogan, the Turkish side discussed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the evacuation of wounded Ukrainian soldiers in Azovstal two weeks ago.


At the request of Turkey, the wounded Ukrainian soldiers will be transported by land to the port of Berdyansk on the Sea of ​​Azov. Here, Turkish ships will pick them up and take them to Istanbul.


"If this plan can be implemented in that way, we will be happy to launch the relief operation. Our ships are ready to leave the harbor and take the wounded Ukrainian soldiers and civilians as well. other people to return to Turkey," Kalin said.


However, according to adviser Kalin, this plan has not been approved by Moscow yet. He also revealed that Russia's position on an evacuation of wounded Ukrainians is still "changing day by day".


On the contrary, President Zelenskiy said that complex negotiations are still underway to evacuate a large number of wounded soldiers from the "fortress" of Azovstal in exchange for the release of prisoners of war. Russian painting.


The Azovstal metallurgical plant is considered the last stronghold in Mariupol for Ukrainian forces and is currently under siege and fierce attack by Russian troops for the past several weeks.
