US sends multiple rocket launchers to Ukraine

US officials are likely to have approved Ukraine's offer to send Kiev multiple launch rocket systems.


 According to the New York Times, the administration of US President Joe Biden has approved the aid to the Ukrainian military with multiple rocket launcher systems (MLRS).


This is considered a new step in the military aid efforts of the US and its allies to the administration of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. In recent months, Ukrainian officials have repeatedly called on allies, especially the United States, to donate heavy weapons systems with long-range strike capabilities such as the MLRS.


Earlier, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on May 27 called on Western allies to send MLRS systems to Ukraine. He believes that these systems "will help the Ukrainian army defend itself against the onslaught of Russian artillery".


Analysts say it is likely that the US will send Ukraine the M31 guided multiple launch rocket system. This is a fairly modern weapon in the US long-range attack arsenal. With a range of 70 to 500km depending on ammunition type and the ability to carry satellite-guided missiles, the M31 system was seen as an obsession with enemy infantry vitality.


Once approved, the M31 systems will soon be shipped to Ukraine as part of a larger US aid package of weapons and security equipment.


Ukraine has recently received tens of billions of dollars in arms and humanitarian aid from the West. However, in a statement on May 24, President Volodymyr Zelensky still affirmed that the war situation in this country is developing very tense and called on allied countries to donate more heavy weapons such as armored vehicles. main battle tanks, multiple launch rocket systems and anti-aircraft missiles.
