The Chicago White Sox will be without the closer Liam Hendriks for at least two weeks after the closer was added to the 15-day injured list on Tuesday from a right forearm strain.
The move is in effect return Saturday.
White Sox general manager Rick Hahn told reporters: "It's a matter of how he reacts to the treatment over the next few days before we give an exact timetable.
A two-time All-Star, Hendriks was absent from Monday's 9-5 win over the Detroit Tigers due to what the team said was a pain in his arm, but he played the starting line-up before the game.
He's 1-2 with AL-best 16 saves, 2.81 ERA and 37 goals in 25 appearances this season. A year ago, he led the league in saves with 38 goals.
In other moves Tuesday, the White Sox reinstated right-hander Joe Kelly (hamstring) from the 15-day IL, recalled Davis Martin's right from Charlotte and picked left-handed Bennett Sousa for the Triple-A branch.
