More than 100 hours of phone calls between the Presidents of France and Russia about Ukraine

 French President Emmanuel Macron said he had talked by phone for at least 100 hours with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to defuse the Ukraine crisis.


In an interview with the media on June 4, French President Emmanuel Macron said: "It is difficult to calculate exactly how many phone calls I have had with Vladimir Putin (to de-escalate tensions over Ukraine) since January. 12 years ago. About 100 hours in total."


The French leader added that he never hid his conversations with President Putin and that the exchanges with the Kremlin owner were carried out at the request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.


"After the hostility ends, we will be able to pave the way out of the crisis through diplomacy. I believe that France should act as a mediator," Macron said.


President Macron is one of a number of foreign leaders trying to play the role of mediator to defuse tensions between Russia and Ukraine, even before the conflict broke out in late February. However, so far the war has been fought. The relationship between these two neighboring countries has not shown any signs of cooling down.


In another related development, the Guardian, citing sources familiar with the matter, said that in recent weeks, the US and its allies have been discussing a potential ceasefire framework between Russia and Ukraine.


One of the solutions discussed was a four-point solution proposed by Italy at the end of May related to Ukraine's commitment to neutrality in exchange for security, and negotiations between Moscow and Kiev on the future. Crimea and the Donbass region.


Ukraine is not directly involved in these discussions, but US and Ukrainian officials both insist that Washington is not pressuring Kiev to accept an option.
