The President of the United States announced that he wanted to have a dialogue with the President of China

US President Joe Biden said he plans to speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping while considering lifting some tariffs imposed on Beijing.

"I plan to have a conversation with President Xi Jinping. We haven't set a time yet," US President Joe Biden told reporters on June 21.

Biden also announced late last week that he "will have a phone call soon" with the Chinese leader.

The most recent phone call between the two leaders was on March 18, when Biden warned Xi Jinping not to assist Russia in its military campaign in Ukraine.

Under former President Donald Trump, the US has imposed 25% tariffs on billions of dollars worth of Chinese imports. Washington claims the measure is intended to punish China's unfair trade practices and protect American manufacturers.

The US tax measure against China is supported politically, in the context of the world's two leading economies competing for influence in the region as well as globally.

However, with inflation at the highest level in 40 years in the US, President Biden is trying to find ways to reduce pressure on prices. The White House boss said that the removal of some tariff barriers is under consideration.

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen also said that easing tariffs could help overcome inflation.

Mr. Biden plans to have a phone call with Xi Jinping as the US-China relationship remains strained on a series of issues.

Taiwan remains by far one of the most dangerous flashpoints in bilateral US-China relations. China condemns the US's continued maintenance of relations with Taiwan, including the sale of weapons and military equipment to the island.

Taiwan on June 21 was forced to send fighter jets to intercept 29 Chinese military aircraft entering the island's air defense identification zone (ADIZ).

In addition to Taiwan, the US and China are also tense over many other issues such as Xinjiang, Hong Kong, and Tibet, as well as trade disputes and cyber attacks. The US also criticized China's militarization and unreasonable sovereignty claims in the East Sea.

The US is also frustrated by China's obstruction of multilateral investigations into the origins of the Covid-19 pandemic. Washington is also "frustrated" by the pressure of the Chinese government on American companies, to force them to lobby for the US Congress to repeal laws that are unfavorable to Beijing.

Tensions between the United States and China have escalated over China's expanding military capabilities, including its nuclear arsenal. The US believes that China has tested hypersonic weapons and suspects that China has built at least 250 new launch wells for long-range missiles.
