How to choose beautiful fabrics when buying clothes

Do you really know what fabric is best for you? Do you understand why fabric matters?

This is something I've struggled with, as I was never taught how to pick the right fabric for my wardrobe.

What should I use? Why is this one better than this one?

While I don't want to bore you, there is a huge difference between silk and silk blend. The former is made from mulberry silk and is expensive and hard to care for.

Silk blends are mostly composed of cotton and cashmere. Both these materials come in a wide variety of styles, cuts, and colors.

This means that you have plenty of options when choosing clothing.

So how do you know which material to buy?

Here are some points to consider.

Fabric care

Your wardrobe will last longer if you know how to care for the material you choose.

Cotton, rayon, polyester, and nylon are all made to be cleaned regularly. Silk, on the other hand, should be washed less frequently.

When choosing between cotton and silk, you want to stick with either the smooth or the printed varieties.

If you prefer bright colors, you should opt for cotton. If you prefer pastels, then you should go for silk.

Fabric weight

The weight of your fabric has a great impact on the size of your clothing. A heavier fabric will allow you to wear smaller sizes while a lighter fabric will make you look larger.

Fabrics with a tight weave will make your clothing appear more fitted than if you had used a looser weave.

However, you don't need to choose a thick or light fabric.

I tend to avoid heavy fabrics because it can make you feel too weighed down. Light fabrics help you move more freely, but they're not perfect either.

As a general rule, you should always choose the most appropriate weight for the occasion you want to wear.

The right weight depends on your height. For instance, if you're 5'4" or shorter, then you should choose a mid-weight fabric such as a wool or linen.

On the other hand, if you're taller than 5'9", then you should choose a more lightweight fabric.

Fit

One of the most important things you should be aware of when choosing fabric is its fit.

A loose weave will give you a more casual style, whereas a tighter weave will look more formal.

Fabric width can also have an impact on your outfit.

Most of the time, you should go with the wider fabric. However, you may find a more tailored style on a narrow fabric.

Caring for fabrics

Finally, it's very important to care for your fabric. You should always wash your fabric separately to prevent dye damage.

You should also store your fabrics in dry, dark places away from sunlight.

And when storing clothes, avoid folding them in the middle. This allows them to flatten and take on a permanent crease.

I hope
