How to distinguish genuine Adidas

There's a common saying in the industry, 'be your own best client.' It refers to how to gain trust from your prospective clients by being honest about who you are and what you do.

Adidas was a client of mine that is a brand that many people in my business love. So when they asked me to do an online campaign for them, I was excited.

Here are some tips for how to differentiate yourself from other freelancers:

First of all, don't confuse a brand like Adidas with just any old company. This brand has a reputation for making high-quality products and being a strong player in the sportswear world. They make their own shoes and apparel, and they produce the best sports balls available.

In order to differentiate themselves from other brands, Adidas hired only three freelancers from my agency. I had no choice in the matter, but I wasn't thrilled about the idea. The other two agencies offered much higher rates than mine.

So before agreeing to accept the job, I did the following:

1. Checked out their website and their Instagram page.

2. Asked them to explain their vision to me.

3. Asked them if they wanted me to do more than just one article.

Once I knew what they were looking for, I told them that I would need to charge more than I normally would because it would take me twice as long. But that didn't stop me from giving my normal hourly rate. They accepted it, and we got to work.

What I Learned:

Asking questions shows you care about your client's project and the direction they're taking. It also shows that you're listening. You can learn so much about a brand by asking questions like these, because it's not as easy as saying, "Do you want content or an infographic?"

Here are some of the questions I used:

1. What is the goal of your new website?

2. Do you already have a designer that you use?

3. Which platform did you choose?

4. Have you worked with that platform before?

5. How much did you spend on your current website design?

6. What type of budget do you have for this project?

7. Will you be using stock images or images that you own?

8. Do you have a logo yet?

9. Who will be reviewing your articles and editing them?

10. What is your desired length of each article?

11. How many pieces of content will you need for this website?

12. Can I send you a portfolio of work so that you can see examples of my previous work?

13. Would you prefer me to make an infographic or do a short article?

14. How many images do you want me to add?

15. Can you give me a couple of key words to use in my research?

16. What kind of traffic do you expect?

17. How will I be credited for the project
