How to distinguish genuine Nike products

Nike is a company I admire, but one of the things that I notice is that all of their shoes seem to share an exact same color scheme. That's why this post is called, 'How to distinguish genuine Nike products'.

I know, I know, you all know the difference between fake and real sneakers. But what if you don't?

I've been buying sneakers since I was a kid. And I can honestly say, I never really paid attention to what colors I bought or how much money I spent on them until about two years ago.

I was sitting in an airport waiting to fly back home and I noticed that I was really tempted by a pair of Nike Air Jordans for $20. A few days before that, I had seen my local shoe store advertise that they had limited edition colorways of the Air Jordans on sale.

I immediately remembered the ad, and started comparing the two pairs of sneakers. They looked identical to me.

As I was standing there debating whether or not to buy them, I kept thinking to myself, "How am I supposed to know the difference?"

I looked for a sticker in the box, a box label, or something that would let me know where the shoes came from. I wasn't finding anything.

As I sat there debating whether or not I should buy them, I started thinking about how I always wondered if Nike had made different versions of their shoe just so they could sell them online at a cheaper price. I'm sure they do, but I don't know how.

It was a real moment of clarity when it finally hit me that I was seeing the exact same shoe over and over again, at the exact same time, on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

I couldn't believe it. Not only was I getting the same exact sneakers, but I was also paying the same price.

In the end, I decided to just walk away.

At the time, it didn't feel right to leave the shoes there. But I think about it every now and then. And every time I think about it, I wonder, "What else can Nike do to keep it interesting for us consumers?"
