How to wear high heels without foot pain

This was the topic I received the most feedback on, so I wanted to write about it myself.

Step 1: Find comfortable shoes

Shoes with a firm sole and a toe box with space is ideal. Avoid thick heeled shoes that push your feet outwards, this can cause pressure points and overwork your muscles.

Step 2: Get your heels in check

Measure your shoes at the widest part of your shoe and measure the difference between your big toe and the next toe on either side. If the difference is more than a half inch (1.3cm), you should consider finding shoes that are a little wider than your current ones. This should give you plenty of space for your toes to move around.

If you are uncomfortable with this measurement and you have smaller feet, you could look for shoes that are a half size too big, which would make the difference in width just a half an inch (1.3cm).

Step 3: Know when to remove your heel

One of the biggest mistakes I see is wearing high heels for an entire day. If you can manage to take them off after a few hours, this will give your muscles a chance to rest and relax, and it won't make you feel any worse.

If you find that your feet hurt after walking all day, it's probably not a good idea to wear them again until the next day. In some cases, you can use an ice pack to relieve the discomfort, but if this does nothing, you should take them off.

Step 4: Wear socks

Wearing cotton socks is the best way to keep your feet warm and dry, but if you notice that your feet are getting too hot, it's probably a good idea to wear something thicker.

If you are concerned about how you'll be able to get around in your new shoes, invest in a pair of shoes you can get in both black and nude. This will help prevent you from having to make an embarrassing appearance to your boss or co-workers by wearing them at work.

Also, invest in a few pairs of thin, neutral socks that you can easily change into if you need to.
