The New York Post page , citing a source from the Russian law enforcement agency on October 8, said that the owner of the truck suspected of planting a bomb and exploding on the Kerch bridge (also known as the Crimean bridge) yesterday was Samir Yusubov, 25-year-old citizen living in the Russian city of Krasnodar.


However, in a video shared on social media after the incident, Samir Yusubov said that at that time, his uncle named Makhir Yusubov, 52, was driving the car.


"I have nothing to do with the incident that happened on the Crimean bridge. The driver of the car is my uncle, Makhir Yusubov. He has been a freight forwarder for a long time," Samir Yusubov, said in a 28-second video. . According to this young man, his uncle often takes orders online. Since the explosion happened, he has not heard from his uncle.


Russian media reported that this truck had traveled along the Krasnodar route to Crimea a few times before. The vehicle is believed to have moved through the western region of Krasnodar region, then headed north before disappearing from security cameras the night before the incident. At dawn yesterday, it reappeared in a village, about a 30-minute drive from where it disappeared. Just an hour later, it crossed the Crimean Bridge and exploded.


RBC news site said that the driver may not know exactly what kind of cargo his car is carrying. This man is said to have received an order to transport fertilizer.


At about 6 a.m. on October 8, a truck suddenly exploded on the Crimean bridge, at the location where the train passed, setting seven oil tanks on fire. The explosion caused two sections of the bridge to collapse, disrupting traffic between mainland Russia and the Crimean peninsula. In addition, the incident killed three people, including the truck driver.


President Vladimir Putin has directed the establishment of a commission to investigate and clarify, and ordered to strengthen security measures for this lifeline bridge.


Russian authorities believe this is an act of sabotage. Russia's Federal Investigative Service said the truck appeared to have been bombed.


Ukraine's leaders said the explosion was just "the beginning", but denied any involvement. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the reaction of the Ukrainian authorities to the destruction of civilian infrastructure "shows their terrorist nature". 


The 19km-long Crimean Bridge was built and inaugurated in 2018, about four years after Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula. The bridge serves as a lifeline connecting the Russian mainland to the peninsula, in particular, it has become an important Moscow supply line for forces in Ukraine since February this year.


Currently, traffic through the Crimean Bridge has been partially restored while Russian units continue to investigate and assess the extent of the damage. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin said that this morning, divers began the task of assessing the extent of damage and expected to be completed by the end of the day.


Crimean Governor Sergei Aksyonov urged people to stay calm and not panic because the peninsula still has enough fuel reserves for a month and food for two months. Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry also confirmed that Russian forces in southern Ukraine are still fully reinforced through land and sea corridors.
