Ukraine plans to deal with 150,000 Russian reserve troops about to go to war

Ukraine's Defense Ministry said 150,000 Russian reserve troops will be sent to fight in Ukraine after a partial mobilization order issued by President Vladimir Putin at the end of September.


In an interview on October 6, Ukraine's Defense Minister Oleksii Rezikov confirmed that Kiev is preparing for a scenario where Russian forces in Ukraine will receive 150,000 additional reinforcements in the near future. This is part of more than 300,000 reserve troops mobilized after a partial mobilization order issued by Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 21.

"The Russians are preparing to send 150,000 more troops to the war in Ukraine in the next two to three months," Rezikov said.

Defense Minister Rezikov confirmed that the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had prepared plans to deal with the huge Russian reinforcements. Mr. Rezikov also emphasized the importance of support from the Western allies for this plan of the Ukrainian military. Accordingly, Kiev will need more long-range weapons and ammunition to maintain the advantage of the current counter-offensive momentum.

In the opposite direction, Minister Rezikov said that the Russian army is facing some difficulties in equipping the newly mobilized soldiers. An offer to buy more than 200,000 bulletproof vests and 500,000 winter uniforms from Russia through a third party was recently rejected by Turkey.

Earlier, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that more than 200,000 reservists had joined the Russian armed forces just two weeks after the partial mobilization order. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the partial mobilization order announced by President Putin will prioritize trained reservists such as tank drivers, artillery members, drivers, motorized infantry. In addition, combat experience is also one of the important factors for recruiting troops.

"The personnel of the newly formed units are undergoing training in 80 training areas and six training centers," said Shoigu.

In the context that the Ukrainian army is counter-attacking on the whole line, the reserve force will play an important role in supplementing the combat strength of the Russian army's lines.

In response to Kiev's counter-offensive, Moscow is actively conducting contract raids with the participation of warplanes, missiles and artillery. In an update on the military situation in recent days, Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov, a spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, said that the contract attacks by the Russian army destroyed hundreds of targets and removed from the fighting ring many Ukrainian soldiers.
