The Belarusian president said that Russia supports an end to the conflict with Ukraine, but a peaceful resolution depends on the actions of the United States.
"I am 100% convinced that Russia is inclined to want an end to this conflict. Everything depends on the United States. America should take practical steps to achieve peace, then there will be peace." Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said in an interview with Chinese media on February 23.
The Belarusian president affirmed that "our path in Ukraine is the path of peace" and that China follows this path as well.
Head of the Belarusian delegation to the United Nations Valentin Rybakov said on February 22 that Belarus believes that the only chance to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict is to start negotiations immediately without any preconditions. .
Negotiations have so far been deadlocked due to the different positions of the parties. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Moscow is ready to negotiate, but only on condition that Kiev accept the "new territorial reality". This means that Ukraine must recognize that four breakaway regions in Ukraine, including Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia, have been incorporated into Russia.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in November last year announced a 10-point peace formula at the G20 summit, which required Russia to withdraw its troops and stop hostilities in Ukraine.
President Lukashenko once said that Belarus considers the conflict between the two "brother peoples" Russia and Ukraine a great tragedy. This war is a direct consequence of the major strategic calculations of the West.
President Lukashenko said earlier this month that the Belarusian army is ready to fight alongside Russia if another country attacks Belarus. He affirmed that Russia and Belarus have combined military forces, but Moscow has never asked Minsk to join the war against Ukraine.
