Russia sent military airships, disrupting the Kiev air defense system

 Ukrainian authorities claim to have shot down Russian military balloons over the capital Kiev.

In a notice issued on February 15, the government of the Ukrainian capital Kiev accused the Russian military of using at least six military balloons to penetrate the airspace of the capital Kiev.

"According to preliminary information, about six enemy airships were detected in the sky over the capital Kiev. All of these targets were hit and most of them were shot down," the press office said. press release of the military administration of the capital Kiev said.

The Ukrainian Air Force later confirmed the information, and confirmed that Russia had used military balloons as "dummy targets" to disrupt the air defense system in the capital Kiev. In addition, these balloons also made Ukraine reveal the layout of air defense complexes in Kiev.

According to Ihnat, the above balloons are designed very simply and are only tied with a piece of iron to trigger reflections from Ukraine's air defense radar. However, the Kiev capital government believes that the Russian balloons may be equipped with angular materials to distract radar as well as some other reconnaissance equipment.

Information about Russian airships entering Kiev airspace came after Western media reported that sirens had sounded in many districts of the Ukrainian capital in the afternoon and evening of February 15. Many media outlets also expressed concern about a large-scale air raid carried out by Russia against the capital Kiev.

Earlier, the Ukrainian Air Force Command accused Russia of using a special military airship in the raid on the Dnipropertrovsk region on February 12.
