China warns of Australia's historic submarine deal

 China warned the US, UK and Australia to "go further down a dangerous path" after announcing the submarine deal.

Australia's first nuclear-powered submarines will be equipped with a vertical cruise missile launch system and are expected to enter service in the early 2040s.

It is estimated that the cost of building and operating these ships by the mid-2050s could cost Australia between $ 268 billion and $ 368 billion.

Speaking during the announcement ceremony held at the US naval base in San Diego with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, US President Joe Biden called the AUKUS agreement part of a commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific region. He stated that the submarines supplied to Australia are nuclear powered ships, not equipped with nuclear weapons.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese emphasized that AUKUS marks "a new chapter" in the relationship between the three countries. "The AUKUS agreement we announced today in San Diego is the largest defense investment in Australia's history," he said.
