Russian rich get richer despite sanctions

 The total wealth of Russia's richest group has increased by more than $10 billion since the beginning of this year despite Western sanctions.

According to Bloomberg's Billionaires Index, the total wealth of Russia's richest people has increased by $10.4 billion since the beginning of 2023.



Billionaire Vladimir Potanin, owner of mining group Norilsk Nickel, continues to be the richest man in Russia with a fortune of $28.5 billion. In second place is the co-founder of gas producer Novatek with $25.1 billion, up $516 million from last year.


Vladimir Lisin, majority shareholder of steel company NLMK, ranked 3rd with a fortune of 20.8 billion USD, an increase of 905 million USD. Following is the Chairman of Severstal Steel Group with 20.2 billion USD. Over the past two months, the billionaire's fortune has increased by $1.54 billion.


Billionaire Alisher Usmanov's fortune, co-founder of the Megafon network, increased by $738 million to $19.2 billion.


The list of Russia's richest people also includes former head of oil giant Lukoil Vagit Alekperov, whose net worth is $17.8 billion, up $2.43 billion in the first two months of the year.


The Billionaires Index is a ranking index for the 500 richest people in the world. This index is evaluated based on the share price of the billionaires' businesses. The above list currently has 22 Russian billionaires.
